Working with pastels is such a sensual way to work directly on the painting surface. Soft pastels are wonderful for their richness of color, their buttery, tactile quality and the ability to build up layers of color and texture to create vibrant, atmospheric paintings.
Being outdoors for long walks, on the water in my kayak, or working in the garden are vital parts of my life, so I am naturally drawn to landscape painting, appreciating the play of light on the land, reflections on water and the luminous changes of sky and clouds. My desire is to hold on to the beauty of a particular time and place by immersing myself in it again through the process of painting.
